The 65th Emmy Awards

I love awards season! The outfits, the jewelry, the humbling/outrageous speeches and the celebrities acting like down-to-earth people, who might as well be my friends. I love it all!

The 65th Emmy Awards aired on Sunday night and it truly packed a punch! It was glamorous, hilarious and truly fun to between the 'In Memoriam' segments, of course. The Emmys are probably my favourite award show, and not just because I love TV (read: I spend WAY too much time watching TV). I find that the Oscars are a tad too stuffy, but the Emmys are light and fun. They don’t take themselves too seriously, which helps in making it an enjoyable award show to watch.

But, let's talk about the most important thing...the awards the fashion! I only caught the last bit of the Red Carpet show on E! but in that short time, I noticed a few trends. First, the understated colour choices. There wasn't much variation in colour, there was lots of light coloured (powder pinks and baby blues), purple and black & white gowns. Second, it seemed as though everyone opted for simpler gown designs. Third, the jewels were big and beautiful! Overall, I found the fashion to be quite underwhelming.

Favourite looks of the night:

Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Monique Lhuillier - By far my favourite look of the evening! This mirrored silver strapless gown was elegant and wonderfully unique.
Kaley Cuoco in Vera Wang - I loved the stunning Merlot colour and sheer bustier of this gown. Kaley Cuoco looked absolutely stunning!
Tina Fey in Narciso Rodriguez - Cobalt blue is my current colour obsession, and Tina Fey looked stunning in this custom made gown. Who knew this lovable actress had such curves!

Honourable Mentions:

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang - Girl is working those curves! Sofia Vergara looks sexy in this breathtaking red Vera Wang gown. I don't think anyone else could have done this dress justice.
Linda Cardellini in Donna Karan Atelier - The dimensions and curves of this dress are amazing. I could stare at it all day long.
Allison Janney in Lorena Sarbu - From the cut to the colour, this gown was beautiful.

Worst Looks of The Night:

Zosia Mamet in Honor and Lena Dunham in Prada - These 'Girls' definitely missed the mark with their gowns.

Also, what was up with this look? Can't say I loved the swimsuit-esque gowns that Lena Headey and Julianne Hough sported.

Side note: I've decided that I definitely need to start watching "Veep". I absolutely adore Julia Louis-Dreyfus! Her acceptance speech took the cake.

Till Next Time,

  1. I definitely agree with your choices for worst dressed - while I could see the vision behind the dresses that Zosia Mamet and Lena Dunham chose, something went terribly wrong in the execution. And I'm not a fan of those swimsuit and sheer skirt dresses, either, they're just not very flattering.
